PPL Shipyard Delivers Sinopec's Kan Tan 6 Jackup Rig Powered By Caterpillar® 3516 CHD Gensets

Based on our vast experience and track record
in serving PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd (PPL), authorized Cat® dealer for Singapore,
Maldives, Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) - Tractors Singapore Limited
was awarded a contract to supply generator sets to Kan Tan 6 in October
2008. The scope included five units of the reliable Cat 3516 CHD Diesel
generator sets as main and one set of Cat 3508 B as its emergency unit.
The attested combination has always been widely used in drilling jack-up
rig application and is well-known for its robustness and minimal life cycle
cost.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation
(Sinopec Corp) is a listed company on domestic and international stock
exchanges with integrated upstream, midstream and downstream operations,
strong oil and petrochemical core businesses along with a complete marketing
network. It is one of the largest integrated energy and chemical company
in China. The scope of its business includes oil and gas exploration and
production. It is China's second largest crude oil producer.
Kan Tan 6 is Sinopec Corp's first newbuild
jack-up rig with PPL Shipyard, and also its first to be built outside China.
The high performance jack-up rig is built, based on PPL Shipyard's proprietary
Pacific Class 375 design and proprietary components. It is equipped to
drill high-pressure and high-temperature wells at 30,000 feet while operating
in 375 feet of water. It can accommodate 120 crew members. Mr K Y Tan,
PPL's Senior General Manager advised Kan Tan 6 is one of 27 rigs that PPL
has built to Pacific Class 375 design. Operating rigs of this design are
currently fetching some of the industry's highest day rates.
TSL completed installation and commissioning
of the gensets and PPL successfully delivered Kan Tan 6 to Sinopec in early
December. It will be owned and operated by the Shanghai Offshore Petroleum
Bureau, a subsidiary of Sinopec Corp.
